Since moving up to Class AA in 2019, Belgrade’s volleyball program has failed to reach the state tournament. Twice the team was one victory away from qualifying, but both of those seasons ended in heartbreak.

Sarah Fowler, who is the team’s new head coach, believes this year’s team has the right mix of talent, experience and desire to end that drought. But, she added, players will need to overcome the mental blocks that have plagued them in past seasons.

“I feel like when I watched last year we were in some games where we kind of made mistakes at the end and didn’t win and we should have. I’m hoping that I can help with building some of that confidence and some of that mental toughness,” said Fowler. “Putting them in those situations in practice so we know how to win in those situations
