Tributes have been paid to a Trafford councillor described as a 'wonderful person' and a 'champion' of young people.

The death of Denise Western, who served as a Labour representative for Broadheath since 2012, was announced this evening. Her son, Andrew Western, is the Labour MP for Stretford and Urmston .

Trafford Labour said: "It is with great sadness that we have to announce that our good friend and Trafford Labour colleague, Cllr Denise Western, died peacefully this morning following a short illness.

"Denise was first elected as a councillor for Broadheath in May 2012 and we know local residents and community groups will be saddened by this news.
