Five people were killed in a tour bus crash on Friday in upstate New York, officials said at a news conference.

A bus carrying 52 passengers, mostly of Indian, Chinese, and Filipino descent, crashed on Interstate 90 near Pembroke in upstate New York. The bus was traveling back to New York City from Niagara Falls when it lost control, rolled over, and crashed into a ditch.

Five people died, including at least one child, according to state police and local authorities. Dozens of others were hurt and taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to critical. Some of the wounded suffered head and internal injuries and broken bones.

Officials believe most passengers were not wearing a seat belt, as multiple people were thrown from the bus, CNN reported. The bus sustained severe damage, according to New York State Police spokesperson James O’Callaghan.
