One person was killed after being shot by Colorado Springs police during a law enforcement operation at 2:48 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of Branding Iron Circle on the city's east side, according to Caitlyn Ford, a public communications specialist with CSPD.

A tactical unit responded alongside the department's violent offender fugitive task force and attempted to contact the suspect in their vehicle. Ford said during the media briefing Friday evening that police identified themselves and the suspect refused to exit.

Ford said the suspect had a gun and fired once at officers, and officers fired at least one round at the suspect. Medics pronounced the suspect dead at the scene.
