CANFIELD The Mahoning County OVI Task Force will be conducting an OVI checkpoint the evening of Friday, August 22.

According to a news release announcing the location, the checkpoint will be held from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the area of 4545 New Road in Austintown.

The checkpoint will be accompanied by saturation patrols by various law enforcement agencies throughout Mahoning County during the weekend to intercept and deter impaired drivers.

A 1990 U.S. Supreme Court ruling requires that drivers be notified before sobriety checkpoints are conducted to avoid violating constitutional protections against illegal search and seizure. The ruling did not specify what constitutes adequate notification.
