ROCKFORD, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Rockford dedicated a memorial plaque to one of their own, who died of a form of muscular dystrophy in November.
Mitchell Peterson, 28, was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a deadly genetic disorder that slowly robs people's muscle strength, in 1999 when he was three years old. He died in November.
"Mitchell's favorite thing to say was, 'You just gotta keep going' and I think that goes for all of us," Mitchell's father, Steve Peterson, told News 8.
That phrase will live on for decades on the memorial plaque in downtown Rockford along with a photo of Mitchell Peterson.
"A lot of mixed emotions, but it's comforting because I can feel Mitch's presence here. Gatherings like this of community coming together, that's what Mitchell's Run is all a
