Oye Owolewa, the District of Columbia's shadow representative, will not seek reelection in 2026 after five years in office. “I’m incredibly proud of our work since assuming this office. Ever since you first elected me in 2020, I took it upon myself to raise the bar. Together, we did just that!” Owolewa, a Democrat, said in a statement.

“And most importantly, we continue to fight back against Donald Trump’s continued oppression on us DC residents. With that said, it’s time to pass the baton to the next generation of leaders,” he continued.  Owolewa is a shadow representative, meaning he has no voting power, but he is tasked with lobbying for Washington, D.C., statehood.
