FLINT, MI — Winning a race is a good feeling.

Winning the same race two years in a row though, now that is something to cherish.

And Bryce Gross has tacked that exact feat, etching another achievement on his athletic résumé at the age of 17.

While it may be one of the shortest races in the 48th HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races, that doesn’t mean it’s the least competitive.

Gross, a runner from Flushing, finished one second ahead of the second-place finisher — Lennox Naswell, a 15-year-old teammate of his at Flint Powers Catholic — to earn the Michigan Mile race win.

Gross, who will be starting his senior year at Flint Powers Catholic this fall, clocked in at 4 minutes, 46 seconds — four seconds faster than his time last year.
