BRENHAM — Public schools in Brenham and Burton will continue displaying posters of the Ten Commandments in classrooms despite a federal judge’s ruling this week temporarily blocking a new state law from taking effect.

The injunction issued Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Fred Biery applies only to the nearly dozen school districts that filed lawsuits challenging Senate Bill 10, which requires public schools to post a donated 16- by 20-inch copy of the Ten Commandments in every classroom, according to the Texas Tribune.

Neither Brenham ISD nor Burton ISD is among those districts.

Biery, a San Antonio judge appointed by President Bill Clinton, concluded the law “favors Christianity over other faiths” and “crosses the line from exposure to coercion.” Texas is expected to appeal the ruling
