Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Detective Brad Reckling’s death wasn’t an accident or a result of youthful recklessness or poor judgment because of his age, his wife and a Wayne County prosecutor said Friday.

Raymone Debose’s age — 18 at the time of Reckling’s murder — doesn’t change the fact that he aimed a loaded gun at the deputy in June 2024 and pulled the trigger, Reckling’s widow, Jacqueline Reckling, said during Debose’s sentencing hearing.

“Six months after the defendant chose to murder Brad, I gave birth to our fourth child. Brad didn’t even get the chance to know he was having a son,” Jacqueline Reckling said. “Because of the defendant’s choice, I will never, ever have a complete picture of our family. There will always be a piece missing.”
