A Larimer County Sheriff’s sergeant has been cleared in a fatal crash that occurred in south Fort Collins during a chase.

The 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office released a letter Friday to Sheriff John Feyen clearing the sergeant who had used a tactical maneuver to stop the fleeing vehicle on May 23, stating that his actions were legally justified.

The sergeant “explained that he had significant community safety concerns given the manner in which (the driver) was driving,” according to the letter signed by District Attorney Gordon McLaughlin. “(The driver) had committed a litany of traffic violations that added up to a consistent reckless pattern of driving that would reasonably be putting others on the roadway at risk …”
