James Spader has had quite a career, and one of his most notable roles, playing Raymond "Red" Reddington in The Blacklist , actually came in the latter part of his career. James Spader has been acting since the late seventies, with his first role coming in the little-seen 1978 film Team Mates , where he plays Keith Butterfield.

1983 brought four TV roles, and then he was off. Since then, Spader has been a staple of movies and television, bringing a strange, almost sinister charm to his performances. He has a smile that can take you off your guard, but his deep voice and piercing gaze always give his characters a level of formidable intelligence.

Spader has earned three Emmy nominations and ten SAG nominations in his career, while also going three for four at the Golden Globes.
