BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - For months following Hurricane Katrina, parishioners at St. Michael Catholic Church leaned on faith, hope, and prayer.
Windows were shattered, pews were destroyed, and about 12 feet of water filled the inside of the church.
Bridgette Whiting has been a member for over three decades and vividly remembers bringing a folding chair for years to attend service. She said it wasn’t until rebuilding started that she caught a glimmer of hope.
“It was just a scary time to think of what happened and how are we ever going to get things back,” she said.
