FRONTENAC, Mo. — "You're Kal?! Come here! You don't know how special you are to me!"

The emotional words from Mae Pratzel echoed through the living room as she embraced 10-year-old Kal Blank for the first time. Some hugs say hello; this one said thank you in a way words never could.

This was a reunion between two people who'd never met, but they were bound by one extraordinary act of kindness that began in the most ordinary of places: a Costco parking lot.

A special gift for finding things

In the parking lot of Costco in Manchester, there's always a sea of shopping carts and hurried lives. But where most people see pavement, one boy sees possibility.

"He has been a finder of things since he was old enough to walk," said Dr. Kelli Blank, Kal's mother.
