Mavericks expected to extend P.J. Washington, reports say

After the Dallas Mavericks landed the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and picked Cooper Flagg out of Duke University, questions flared for 27-year-old forward P.J. Washington.

Washington was acquired by the Mavericks after they traded for him with the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Grant Williams, Seth Curry, and a protected first-round pick in 2027. In Washington's first season with the team, he helped lead Dallas in a run to the NBA Finals in 2024.

Heading into the 2025-26 season, Washington is due for an extension while playing on an expiring contract that will have him being paid $14.15 million.
