OpenAI launched ChatGPT on Nov. 30, 2022, kicking off a frenzy of excitement about generative AI -- and a flood of spending on it. Few companies have benefited more from that than Nvidia ( NVDA 1.65% ) . The chipmaker's graphics processing units (GPUs) have proven essential hardware for training and running generative AI applications.

Since ChatGPT's launch, Nvidia's stock price has increased more than tenfold. It's now the most valuable company in the world with a market cap exceeding $4 trillion.
