The 5,630-hectare Griffin Forestry Estate has been acquired for £145m, in one of Scotland's largest rural land transactions ever.

The deal was done on behalf of a fund managed by London-based Gresham House, at a value significantly higher than the original listing price of £130m.

Savills marketed the sale as two lots.

Lot one - which included Griffin Forest, Ballinloan A Forest and the Griffin wind farm - was on sale for offers over £105m, while lot two - the 1,389-hectare Moness Forest - was on sale for offers over £25m.

The wind farm has been in operation since 2012, with 39 turbines and a capacity of 2.3 megawatts.
