DES MOINES, Iowa —

Barbers for the Future hosted their annual back-to-school event Sunday afternoon, providing students with free haircuts and school supplies.

Barbers from across the metro came together to make this event possible.

Kendra Miller, director of Barbers for the Future, said, "A haircut can really take confidence level and make them feel like a brand-new person."

Miller also noted, "I think it's really cool for them to be able to come and tell the barber exactly what they want. Some kids have never had the opportunity to do that. So, they're all just absolutely thrilled to be here and thrilled to get haircuts."

The organization handed out backpacks filled with school supplies, shoes, and hygiene products.
