If you've ever wanted to make a difference in the life of a dog, now’s your chance.

The Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department is calling on the community to join its volunteer dog-walking team.

These shelter dogs spend nearly 23 hours a day in kennels with limited social interaction, and volunteers play a critical role in improving their quality of life.

Dog-walking offers more than just a break from confinement — it provides essential exercise, socialization, mental stimulation, and leash training.

According to shelter staff, these elements are crucial for a dog’s emotional well-being and significantly increase their chances of adoption.
