President Donald Trump’s disdain for the U.S. Constitution and the limits it places on executive authority in the American constitutional republic form of government is no secret to anyone. His fawning compliments showered on authoritarians such as Putin, Orban and Bolsonaro are demonstrations of his envy for their ability to bend their countries’ institutions to their will, even if temporarily, in the case of Bolsonaro.

So, it comes with little surprise that Trump’s social media rants this week about mail-in voting and voting machines are couched in the wildly unconstitutional cloak of federal supremacy over the electoral systems used by states to conduct local, state and national elections.
