An Illinois man is accused of slipping abortion medication to his girlfriend without her consent and causing her to have a miscarriage in her apartment.

Emerson Evans, 31, was taken to the McLean County Detention Facility to await a hearing on Monday, according to a statement from police in Bloomington, a city in central Illinois, around 140 miles southwest of Chicago.

Evans, according to the statement, "administered abortion inducing drugs to the victim without her knowledge or consent." Police learned of the alleged dosing on Friday, when officers were sent to a home in Bloomington for "a pregnant person having a medical emergency."
