A Frisco resident claimed the first of four top prize-winning tickets worth $5 million in the Texas Lottery scratch ticket game $5 Million Royale.

The winning scratch-off ticket was purchased for $50 at the RaceTrac gas station at 2676 Eldorado Parkway in Frisco and claimed on Aug. 15.

The claimant elected to remain anonymous.

The Texas Lottery is required to withhold federal taxes of 24% for prizes over $5,000. A $5 million prize would push the winner into the highest income tax bracket, and they’d likely owe an additional 13% to the federal government. Texas does not tax lottery winnings, so after paying 37% to the federal government, the winner would have about $3.15 million left over.
