TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A majority of Millennials and Gen Z renters are struggling to afford their regular housing payments, according to a recent survey by Redfin.
The real estate brokerage company said more than 4,000 U.S. homeowners and renters were surveyed by Ipsos in May 2025, and nearly half of them said they struggle to afford housing.

Of those surveyed, 40% said they are eating out at restaurants less often to make their monthly rent payments. They also reported taking no or fewer vacations. 27% said they are borrowing money from family or friends and 25% said they are working extra shifts to afford housing.
