Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter has still not resigned from office despite Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and nearly every local elected official calling for him to step down.
The calls for Cotter, a three-term Republican coroner, to resign came after state inspectors performing a routine inspection at Davis Mortuary, Cotter's private funeral home, uncovered a room in which approximately 20 decomposing bodies were being improperly stored. Some of those bodies, Cotter allegedly told state investigators, had been in the secret room for as long as 15 years.
Colorado law currently does not allow an elected coroner to be removed from office, but a coroner can be recalled, per Colorado Election Code. Amid the ongoing criminal investigation into Cotter and Davis Mortuary, Pueblo County Clerk
