Burnsville officials are weighing a proposal to convert the longtime Hampton Inn hotel into a residential treatment facility for adults with mental health and substance use disorders.

The four-story Hampton Inn, which opened in 1997, is next to the Original Pancake House on land bounded by 1-35W, I-35E and County Road 42. The development area, which also houses the Fairfield Inn, was dubbed the city's "Golden Triangle" in the 1980s.

The Hampton Inn's owner, MSP Burnsville LLC, is behind the plan to convert the 79-room hotel into a treatment facility, which could operate with as many as 149 clients.
