CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — A man was sentenced to 45 years in prison and 30 years of probation earlier this month for causing a crash on I-95 in Camden County in 2022 that left four people dead .

On Aug. 7, a jury found Nicholas Burist, 46, guilty on a slew of charges, including eight counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree related to the crash. On Aug. 12, Judge Anthony Harrison sentenced Burist.

According to a report from the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles, Burist told officials that "everyone was tailgating him" and that a vehicle in front of him slammed on its brakes. He said this is what caused him to lose control of the semitruck he was driving.
