EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan State hockey head coach Adam Nightingale announced MSU’s team captains for the upcoming 2025-26 season on Monday. Senior defenseman Matt Basgall was named the team captain and will wear the “C” after serving as an alternate captain last season.
Seniors Charlie Stramel and Tiernan Shoudy and junior Patrick Geary were named alternate captains. Stramel and Geary will wear the “A” for the first time this year, while Shoudy reprises his alternate captain role from last season.
Basgall was First Team All-Big Ten and an ACHA All-American last year and a finalist for Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year after posting six goals, 20 assists, and 45 blocked shots last season.
Michigan State begins the regular season on October 9 vs. New Hampshire.
