They’re chasing salmon in Owen Sound, and in nearby Shallow Lake, hockey players are chasing dreams.
With the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre still undergoing a massive renovation, the Owen Sound Attack opened rookie camp inside the Shallow Lake and District Community Centre on Monday.
Thirty-eight players got the invite to the two-day camp at the home of the Shallow Lake Lakers.
The rink is cold, and with just enough room for the ice pad, players’ benches, and two rows of seats for the spectators. The walls are covered with local sponsor placards and minor hockey championship banners. It’s probably a comforting feeling for the Ontario Hockey League hopefuls who grew up playing in similar small-town rinks.
