Ahead of their series opener against the Phillies, the Mets have placed right-hander Reed Garrett on the 15-day IL. retroactive to August 23, with right elbow inflammation. In a corresponding move, the club has selected the contract of left-hander José Castillo to join the bullpen. To make room on the 40-man roster for Castillo, Frankie Montas has been transferred to the 60-day IL.

Garrett was enjoying a mostly-solid season for New York up until a few weeks ago. He owned a 2.45 ERA through his first 49 appearances this year, but has allowed at least one earned run in five of his last six outings dating back to August 10.
