North Alabama (WDHN) -- The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) has recently been made aware of a confirmed case of measles in North Alabama involving a child under the age of 5.
It was noted that the unvaccinated child most likely contracted the disease while travelling outside of the U.S.
This is the first reported case of measles in Alabama since 2002, and health officials, including Chief Medical Officer Dr. Karen Landers, are reminding parents to ensure their children are up to date with their measles vaccinations.
The child is not enrolled in any daycare or school at the time, and all siblings of the child have been vaccinated and are not exhibiting any symptoms of measles.
