FAIRFIELD -- Investigators believe they know what started a fire that destroyed a home in Fairfield.

Shortly after 9pm Saturday, fire marshals were called to assist with a fire on Martin Stream Road.

The homeowner was not home at the time of the incident.

No injuries were reported.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says preliminary findings indicate the fire likely started from an electrical malfunction located in the ceiling or wall of the home’s addition.

They say further investigation is needed to pinpoint the exact failure.
