AUGUSTA -- Maine’s Republican legislative leaders are calling for Secretary Shenna Bellows to resign.

A letter sent to Bellows cites her refusal to cooperate with federal authorities, failures to comply with the National Voter Registration Act and what they say are serious public safety concerns following a recent pedestrian death in Lewiston that involved a driver that wasn’t a U.S. citizen.

The letter says quote “The citizens of Maine deserve full confidence that the individual overseeing our elections and motor vehicle laws does so with impartiality, transparency and without the appearance of conflict.”
