Leaping lizards! A large lizard was spotted skittering around a city in central Maine Sunday evening, police there said.
The reptile, believed to be a Tegu, was spotted in the area of Hillside Ave in Old Town. Its current location is unknown, the Old Town Police Department said in a Facebook post .
Old Town police originally thought the creature was a monitor lizard — the same species as the lizard that was on the loose in Webster , Mass. earlier this month — but believe it’s a Tegu after hearing from residents, the department said.
Tegus have sharp teeth and claws and strong jaws. While the lizard is not naturally aggressive, it may lash out if threatened, police said in the post.
