RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT)—Labor Day weekend is approaching, and the Virginia Department of Transportation is making travel plans easier by lifting lane closures and highway work zones.

Labor Day falls on Monday, September 1, and many people will hit the roads the weekend before to celebrate the last days of summer.

VDOT will suspend many highway work zones and lift most lane closures on interstates and other major roads in Virginia from noon on Friday, August 29, until noon on Tuesday, September 2. However, motorists may still encounter semi-permanent work zones that remain in place during this time.
