Two people have been arrested after a 13-year-old drowned in a river that forms a Michigan-Wisconsin border.

According to the Marinette Police Department, the teen from Marinette drowned in the Menominee River on Aug. 20. He has since been identified as Jakob Bowerman.

Police responded to the scene at 1:33 p.m. where officers used a lifeboat to remove Bowerman from the river.

Lifesaving efforts were started immediately before he was taken to Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area and later to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay.

He died on Aug. 23, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser . More than $10,600 has been raised.

A 16-year-old and a 21-year-old were both arrested after further investigation. Police did not elaborate on the circumstances around the drowning or the arrests.
