PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Pitt County Board of Elections Chair Gary Weaver has resigned from his recently appointed post.

Weaver, a former Pitt County GOP chair, was appointed by State Auditor Dave Boliek just two months ago.

A spokesman for Boliek confirmed that Weaver had resigned, saying the auditor appreciated his service.

“After prayerful consideration, I have decided to step down and pursue other opportunities of service to my community,” Weaver’s resignation letter reads.

WITN has left multiple messages with Weaver, but none of them have been returned.

Weaver had succeeded Etsil Mason as chair, who had been serving as the county chair since 2018.

This comes weeks after Weaver called the board back to reconsider the early voting plan they adopted at the end of July.
