She was appointed to the board after losing her re-election bid. Karen Rose was defeated in her 2024 primary election for her District 2 seat by Liz Barker. However, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed her to fill a different vacant seat, District 5, after the previous board member, Tim Enos, stepped down to become the school district's police chief.
