SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Three days after the California High Speed Rail Authority issued a report detailing the challenges and opportunities of completing the long-delayed project connecting San Francisco and Los Angeles by train, a Democratic state senator touted legislation to help create a steady, long-term funding stream.
“We’re here today because high-speed rail is California’s opportunity to lead the nation in clean, fast and safe public transit,” California Senate Transportation Chair Dave Cortese, D-Silicon Valley, said Monday at an event promoting SB 545.
Introduced in February, the bill would require the state to conduct a study and develop a roadmap for developing affordable housing and expanding businesses along the 400-mile rail corridor to help support the bullet train’s const
