COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– City of Columbia leaders want gun-owners to be smart when it comes to securing their firearms.

This afternoon, Monday, August 25, Mayor Rickenmann alongside Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook as well as superintendents and other leaders joined the organization “Be Smart” to announce Smart Week in Soda City.

Smart Week emphasizes gun safety and aims to educate the public about smart firearm storage techniques.

Columbia’s mayor says this initiative along with existing programs can help address the city’s gun violence.

Smart Week urges the public to secure all guns and demonstrate responsible behavior around firearms.
