Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker blasted Donald Trump as a "wannabe dictator" for potentially deploying military personnel to Chicago streets the way he has in the nation's capital.

Pritzker and other Illinois officials said the White House and administration have not reached out at all to Chicago elected leaders about any federal initiative to combat crime. They cited statistics showing drops in violent crime in Chicago and cast Trump's move as performative, partisan and racist.

Earlier Monday, Trump suggested multiple times that he might dispatch the National Guard to Chicago regardless of Pritzker’s opinion, calling the city a “killing field,” an apparent reference to the Cambodian genocide. He also insulted Pritzker's weight and called him a “slob.”

"Mr. President, do not come to Chicago," Pritzker said, standing in a park about a mile from the Chicago skyscraper that features Trump's name in large lettering.

The governor, a potential 2028 presidential candidate, said he would fight the “petty whims of an arrogant little man” who "wants to use the military to occupy a US city, punish his dissidents and score political points."

Pritzker added: "If you hurt my people, nothing will stop me, not time or political circumstance, from making sure that you face justice under our constitutional rule of law."
