But did you know that it started right here in Pennsylvania?

The year was 1904, and like many American cities, soda fountains were a popular spot in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Behind the counter at one pharmacy was so-called soda jerk David Strickler, who was experimenting with new combinations to appease his customers, according to the Great American Banana Split Celebration, a festival that honors Strickler's creation each year in Latrobe.
