ATLANTA — Nearly a month after a cyberattack shut down Georgia's SNAP call center, the system remains offline, with some families unable to access their food assistance benefits.

"There's literally families having to choose between their utility bill and putting food in the fridge," Megan Ralston, a mom from Putnam County, shared.

While details of the attack remain limited, the disruption comes after the Georgia Department of Human Services said automated bots targeted the state's Interactive Voice Response system, the phone line used by Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients to check balances and monitor transactions. The July 28 attack prompted DHS to ask its third-party vendor, Conduent, to shut down the system.
