LANSING, MI – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel wants the state’s largest electric utility company’s latest $574 million rate hike request to be reduced by close to 75%, according to recent testimony filed in the case .
DTE Energy filed its request with the Michigan Public Service Commission in April, seeking the second biggest request in over two decades . If approved, that could mean an 11% cost increase on residential electric bills with the average customer paying $13.50 more a month.
The request also came three months after receiving approval from the MPSC for its last rate increase of $217 million.
In a release on Monday, Aug. 25 , Nessel’s office maintained a nearly 75% reduction to the current request before state regulators could save Michigan ratepayers millions. She
