ALEXANDRIA — This year’s recipients of the Alexandria Sertoma’s Service to Mankind Award thought they were attending the luncheon last Wednesday, Aug. 20, because their son was the one getting the award.

But when it came time to announce the recipient, Brooke Steinbring, member of Sertoma, said “Terry Anderson was raised with a deep appreciation for community, the outdoors, and the importance of giving back — values he learned from his parents, Earl and Sonya Anderson.”

Still thinking he was the recipient, Sonya was recording the announcement on her cell phone with Terry, sitting directly across from her.

Still not spilling the beans, Steinbring said Sonya and Earl’s influence inspired Terry to help launch the Spectacular Ride for Charity, an event that benefits multiple organization
