FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Two Fort Wayne City Council members are calling for a new approach to address homeless encampments they say are straining downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.

Monday, Councilmen Russell Jehl and Scott Myers sent a letter to City Attorney Malak Heiny to look at different legal strategies and call on Mayor Sharon Tucker’s administration to create a plan.

The councilmen argue Fort Wayne is behind other cities in dealing with the issue and they say the current system is not working.

Myers says this will take time, multiple discussions and help from the people of Fort Wayne.
