DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Lt. Gov. Chris Cournoyer will stop in Davenport for the ribbon-cutting of Horizons Science Academy on Friday.
The Quad-Cities’ first charter school will open in the fall to 210 kindergartners through sixth graders. According to earlier reporting , it could expand to 600 students.
In 2021, Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a law expanding who can open and operate public charter schools in Iowa.
The ribbon-cutting is at the school from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at 2626 Boies Ave., Davenport.
Cournoyer was selected as lieutenant governor by Gov. Kim Reynolds in December 2024 and is a member of the governor’s STEM Advisory Council.
Before that she represented Iowa Senate District 35, which covered Clinton, Jackson and Scott counties.
