BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Week 1 of college football is here. Two local teams will start their seasons Thursday.
In three days, Samford and UAB will each kick off at home. Fans are just as excited as the teams to get the season underway.
“I’m hoping to see a whole lot of touchdowns, a whole lot of cheering, a whole lot of school spirit, whole lot of ‘'Go Blazers,'" UAB freshman Beau Hoffman said.
“I do think that the first game is kind of a good start to the year, and it really helps Samford Athletics," said Frances Inabnet, a senior at Samford. "I feel like it garners a lot of interest. It at least garners mine. I’m a big sports fan.”
Samford and UAB fans alike said the first game of the season is always a popular one.
