MACON, Ga. — After nearly six months of closures and detours, the Bass Road Bridge in north Macon reopened Saturday, bringing relief to drivers and businesses that struggled with reduced foot traffic during the extended construction period.

State crews replaced the aging bridge structure, forcing motorists to find alternate routes since the closure began in early 2024. The project was part of ongoing infrastructure improvements in the area.

Local businesses say the closure significantly affected their operations, with some reporting reduced customer visits and scheduling challenges.

Courtney Williams, who has worked at Depoe Eye Center for 10 years, said the clinic saw an increase in late patients during the closure period.
