JANESVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) – Sen. Tammy Baldwin addressed the high cost of child care during a roundtable discussion in Janesville. She heard from advocates and parents about the struggles Wisconsinites face in accessing affordable child care.
Baldwin said she aims to ensure that no parent pays more than 7 percent of their income on child care.
"You know, there are a few parents out there who can comfortably afford the cost of their child care, but that's a rarity these days," Baldwin said.
Currently, there are not enough child care openings to meet demand. For every available slot, three or more children are in need of care.
Data from the University of Wisconsin-Madison shows that the average cost of full-time child care for a 2-year-old in Dane County exceeds $19,000.
