Metal band Mastodon performed at the Alaska State Fair just two days after former guitarist Brent Hinds died in a motorcycle accident in Atlanta. The show marked the band’s first performance since Hinds’ unexpected death at age 51, Parade reports.
Drummer Brann Dailor delivered a tribute to his late bandmate during the performance in Palmer, Alaska. Fan-captured video shows Dailor addressing the crowd about the loss of the band’s co-founder.
“We lost somebody very special to us yesterday,” Dailor told the audience. “Brent Hinds, 25 years with us as our guitar player, one of the most creative, beautiful people that we’ve ever come across in this world, tragically left us.”
Hinds, the co-founder and lead guitarist for Mastodon, died on Wednesday , according to Atlanta police.
